From crate to couch: finding the right size
This guide covers every sized product in the shop: throw blankets, hoodies, sweatshirts and tees, pet beds, bandanas, crate and car seat mats, pillow covers, mugs and ornaments. Blankets have fixed dimensions, which are listed below in inches and centimetres. For apparel and pet gear, this page explains how to measure and how to choose. If you would like the exact measurements of a particular item, email [email protected] and we will confirm them by email, usually within 24 hours on business days.
And if a size turns out wrong anyway, you are covered: every product can be returned or exchanged within 60 days, for any reason, with a free return label from us.

Throw blankets
Every throw, whether a custom photo blanket, a breed portrait or a campfire design, comes in the same three sizes. Fleece and Sherpa share the same dimensions, so choose the size first and the option second.
| Size | In centimetres | Who it suits | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 x 40 in | 76 x 102 cm | A child, a lap, a cat or a small to medium dog | An armchair lap, a crate floor, a window perch, the back seat of a car, a dog bed topper |
| 50 x 60 in | 127 x 152 cm | One adult wrapped up, or one adult plus a pet on the couch | Draped over a three-seat sofa, folded at the foot of a bed, a reading chair, a camp chair by the fire |
| 60 x 80 in | 152 x 203 cm | Two people sharing, a large dog who sprawls, or a whole-bed throw | Across the top of a bed, covering a full sofa seat to back, a cabin bunk |
How to measure your space
- Decide where the blanket will spend most of its time. A throw bought “for everything” usually ends up on the couch.
- For a sofa, measure the seat from arm to arm, then from the floor at the front up and over to the top of the back cushion if you want it to drape.
- For a bed, measure the width of the mattress top and how far you want the blanket to hang over each side.
- For a crate or car seat, measure the floor or seat surface. The 30 x 40 in throw can be folded to fit a smaller space, which also gives a thicker layer.
- Compare your numbers with the table. If you land between two sizes, go larger for draping and smaller for tucking into a tight space.
Picking a size for a photo blanket
Size also changes how your photo looks. On a 30 x 40 in blanket, a close-up of your pet’s face works best. On a 50 x 60 in throw, a photo of a dog sitting or lying down fills the space nicely; a 50 x 60 in throw on a three-seat sofa is a natural, easy fit. If two pets are in the photo, or you want a wide shot of your dog on a trail, the 60 x 80 in size gives each pet more room. Whichever size you pick, start with the original, full-resolution photo.
Hoodies, sweatshirts and tees
Our tops are unisex. The size labels are the same across the range, but the size spread differs slightly by style:
| Style | Sizes | Typical way people wear it |
|---|---|---|
| Unisex pullover hoodie | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL | Over a tee on a cool evening, hood up by the fire |
| Crewneck sweatshirt | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL | Over a flannel or on its own |
| Long-sleeve tee | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL | As a base layer or on a spring walk |
| Short-sleeve tee | S, M, L, XL, 2XL | Warm days; note there is no 3XL |
We do not publish a numeric measurement chart for apparel on this page. For the exact chest, length and sleeve measurements of a style in a given size, email us and we will confirm them.
How to measure a top you already own
The most reliable way to choose is to compare with a hoodie or sweatshirt that already fits you the way you like.
- Lay the top flat on a table or bed, front facing up, and smooth out the wrinkles without stretching it.
- Chest: measure straight across from armpit seam to armpit seam. This is half the chest width.
- Body length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom hem or ribbing.
- Sleeve: measure from the shoulder seam along the top of the sleeve to the cuff.
- Write the three numbers down and send them to us with the style you are looking at. We will tell you which size is closest.
Choosing between two sizes
- Layering: if you will wear a crewneck sweatshirt over a flannel shirt, many people go one size up.
- Close fit: if you like a hoodie that sits neatly at the waist and does not bunch under a jacket, stay with your usual size.
- Usually wear women’s sizes? Unisex tops are cut on a straighter line. Compare with a unisex top you own rather than going by the label alone.
- Buying a gift: check the size label in a hoodie the person already wears, or choose a blanket instead. Exchanges are free within 60 days if you guess wrong.
Pet beds
Pet beds come in Small, Medium and Large. Exact dimensions for each are confirmed by email on request. To choose, think about how your pet sleeps rather than only how big they are.
- Watch your pet sleep. Curlers tuck their nose to their tail; sprawlers stretch out flat on their side.
- For a sprawler, measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail while they are stretched out, then add some room for legs.
- For a curler, measure the circle they make when curled up, and pick a bed slightly bigger so they can turn around.
- Check the spot where the bed will go, such as a corner of the cabin or the space beside your bed, so it fits the floor as well as the pet.
- Email us your measurements and we will tell you which size is the closer match.
Older dogs with stiff joints often like to stretch out more than they used to, so if your senior pet is between two sizes, the larger bed gives them space to change position through the night.
A puppy who will grow? Size for the adult dog, and lay a 30 x 40 in throw inside the bed until the puppy fills it.
Tie-on bandanas
Bandanas come in S, M and L, chosen by neck size. Because they tie on, there is some room to adjust, but the right size sits flat and neat rather than bunched or stretched.
- Use a soft tape measure, or a piece of string and a ruler.
- Measure around your pet’s neck where the collar normally sits.
- Leave enough slack to slide two fingers between the tape and the neck.
- Email us the number and we will confirm which of S, M or L fits that neck.
For long-haired breeds, measure through the fur rather than on top of it, and remove the bandana when your pet is unsupervised or in a crate.
Crate and car seat mats
Mats are named for the crate they are made to sit in, so the easiest way to choose is to know your crate.
| Mat size | Named for | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 24 in crate | Look for the crate size on its label or packaging |
| Medium | 30 in crate | Measure the length of the crate floor tray |
| Large | 36 in crate | Measure the length of the crate floor tray |
| XL | 42 in crate | Measure the length of the crate floor tray |
Crate sizes are usually named by their length, so a “36 in crate” is about 36 in long. If your crate falls between two names, email us its floor length and width before ordering and we will tell you which mat suits it. For the back seat of a car, measure the seat from door to door and from the backrest to the front edge, and email us those numbers with the mat size you are considering. We will confirm the exact mat measurements.
Pillow covers, mugs and ornaments
Pillow covers
Choose 16 x 16 in or 18 x 18 in to match the cushion insert you already have, since the cover comes without an insert. Measure the insert from seam to seam across the middle, not corner to corner. A slightly bigger insert in a cover gives a fuller, plumper pillow; a smaller one looks flat.
Mugs
Mugs come in 11 oz and 15 oz. The 11 oz is a standard coffee cup. The 15 oz is the one for a long, slow morning on the porch, or for the person who always refills.
Ornaments
Ornaments are one size, so there is nothing to choose apart from the design. They hang from a tree branch, a hook by the cabin door or a window latch, and make an easy add-on to a blanket order.
Sizing in real life: five quick examples
Juniper on the sofa
Juniper the golden retriever spends evenings on a three-seat sofa with her people. A 50 x 60 in throw drapes across the seat cushions with room for Juniper and one person, and folds neatly over the back when guests come. If the whole family piles on together, the 60 x 80 in covers more of the seat.
Pepper in the window
Pepper the tuxedo cat has a favourite window perch and an armchair. A 30 x 40 in blanket fits the chair seat and can be folded in half for the perch, which also gives a thicker spot to knead.
The cabin bunk
For a bunk or a bed in a weekend cabin, the 60 x 80 in throw is the one to choose. It is wide enough to cover the top of a bed rather than sit as a strip across the foot.
The road-trip dog
A large dog who rides in the back seat may be better served by a crate and car seat mat sized for the seat, with a 50 x 60 in throw on top for the colder legs of the trip. Measure the seat before choosing, as described in the crate mat section above.
The sweatshirt gift
Your dad wears a size L in his favourite flannel and always layers. A crewneck sweatshirt in XL gives room to wear it over the flannel. If he prefers it on its own, the L is the safer pick. Either way, a free exchange within 60 days takes the pressure off the guess.
Still between sizes? Exchanges are free
Sizing from a screen is never perfect, so we keep the safety net simple. Any product can be returned or exchanged within 60 days, for any reason, and that includes personalised blankets and hoodies. We send a free return label. Ask for the exchange by email with your order number, the size you have and the size you want. Full details are on Returns & Exchanges, and the Refund Policy covers money back if you would rather not exchange.
If you are planning around a date, remember that a new size follows the normal timeline of 1–3 business days to prepare and 7–14 business days in transit. See Shipping & Delivery.
