Intellectual Property Policy

Last updated:

Everything at Paws And Pine starts from two things: your pet, and the feeling of a quiet evening by the fire under the pines. This Intellectual Property Policy explains who owns the designs, photos and words on pawsandpine.shop, what you may do with them, what we will and will not print on a personalised order, and how to tell us if you think something here uses your trademark, artwork or likeness without permission. Copyright takedown notices follow a specific legal format, set out on our DMCA page. Everything else starts here.

Pine-needle summary

  • Our designs are original or built from generic outdoor themes: pines, campfires, cabins, trails and breed portraits. They are not tied to any brand, team, park or character.
  • We refuse personalisation requests that copy brands, logos, sports teams, cartoon or film characters, or the names of parks and outdoor brands.
  • You must own, or have permission to use, every photo you send us for a custom item.
  • Your pet photo stays yours. We use it only to print your order and delete it 30 days after delivery.
  • You may share links to our pages, but please do not copy our designs, photos or text.
  • Report an IP concern to [email protected]. We reply within 24 hours on business days.

1. What belongs to Paws And Pine

The Paws And Pine name and logo, the artwork on our blankets, hoodies, sweatshirts, tees, pet beds, bandanas, crate mats, pillow covers, mugs and ornaments, the product images and previews, the product descriptions, and the guides and policy pages you are reading are owned by Paws And Pine or used with permission. They are protected by copyright and trademark law.

Our artwork leans on shared, timeless outdoor imagery: a ridge of pines against a dusk sky, a ring of stones around a fire, a log cabin with a lit window, paw prints on a trail. These themes belong to nobody, and our versions of them are drawn for this store. Breed portraits show the general look of a breed, such as a golden retriever’s feathered ears or a tuxedo cat’s white bib, rather than a specific famous animal or another artist’s painting.

2. What you are welcome to do

  • Browse, save and print pages for your own personal use, for example printing the Size Guide to measure a hoodie at home.
  • Share links to products and collections with friends and family, perhaps when dropping a gift hint before a birthday.
  • Photograph the blanket or hoodie you bought and share your own photos, for example your dog asleep on a sherpa throw. Once it is in your home, it is yours to enjoy and show off.
  • Quote a short extract from our pages, with a link back to the original.

3. What we ask you not to do

  • Copy, download in bulk or republish our artwork, product images or descriptions on another store, marketplace or print-on-demand listing.
  • Use the Paws And Pine name or logo, or a confusingly similar one, in a way that suggests you are us or are connected with us.
  • Scrape the site with automated tools, other than normal search-engine indexing.
  • Make products or derivative designs from our artwork without our written permission.

These rules are also part of our Terms of Service.

4. Personalisation: what we will and will not print

Our custom photo blankets and photo hoodies, along with the many items that carry your pet’s name, are printed exactly as you enter them. There is no proof step, which means we cannot catch every issue later in the process, so the rules are set out clearly up front.

Personalisation requests we accept and refuse
RequestCan we print it?Why
A photo you took of your own dog or catYesYou own it
A photo a friend or family member took, with their OKYesYou have permission
Your pet’s name, such as “Pepper” or “Juniper”YesA pet’s name is yours to use
A second line such as “Trail buddy since 2019” or “Forever by the fire”YesYour own words
A professional pet portrait session photoOnly if the photographer’s licence allows printing on productsThe photographer usually keeps the copyright
A pet photo found on social media or a stock siteNoSomeone else owns it
A sports team name, crest or mascotNoTrademark of the team or league
A cartoon, film or game character, or a pet “dressed” as oneNoCopyright and trademark of the studio
The name or logo of a national or state park or an outdoor gear brandNoProtected names and marks
A celebrity’s name or likenessNoRight of publicity

If an order breaks these rules, we cancel it and refund it in full rather than print it. When we can, we suggest a simple fix, such as dropping a team name from the second line or using one of our own campfire or pine designs instead.

Photos with people in them

A photo of your dog on a hike might include a friend or a child. Please only send photos where everyone who can be recognised is happy for the picture to be printed, or crop them out first.

Memorial pieces

For a blanket remembering a pet who has passed, the best photo is sometimes an old print or one taken by a relative. That is fine. Scan or photograph your own print, or ask the relative for their blessing. If the only photo you have was taken by a professional photographer, a quick email asking for permission is usually all it takes.

Worked examples from real-life orders

Juniper on the porch. You snapped your golden retriever, Juniper, on the cabin porch with your phone. You paste a Google Photos link set to “anyone with the link”, type “Juniper” in the name field and add “Porch patrol” as the second line. Everything here is yours, so it prints as entered.

Pepper in a costume. Your tuxedo cat, Pepper, wore a homemade witch hat for Halloween. A plain hat is fine. If the costume is a recognisable character outfit with the character’s logo or name visible, choose a different photo or crop the logo out, because the character’s design belongs to its studio.

Two pets, one blanket. You want your dog and cat on the same throw. Choose our two-pet lakeside design, which has a photo link box for each pet, or on a single-pet design send one photo that already shows them together. Either way, both photos must be ones you took or have permission to use, and both names are printed exactly as typed, for example “Juno & Pepper”.

A favourite team. Your beagle always watches the game with you, and you would like the team name under his photo. We cannot print team names, crests or colours arranged as a team logo. A line like “Game day buddy” keeps the spirit without borrowing anyone’s mark.

A favourite park. You met your dog on a hike and want the park’s name on the blanket. Park names and their emblems are protected, so we will not print them. A generic line such as “Where the trail began”, paired with one of our pine-ridge designs from cabin and campfire throws, tells the same story.

A gift for a friend. You are ordering a photo hoodie for a friend in New Zealand using a photo of her dog from her own social feed. Ask her first, or ask her to send you the original. Her permission covers it; a photo taken from her page without asking does not.

5. Your photos stay yours

Sending us a share link does not transfer any rights to us. You give Paws And Pine a limited permission to open the link, fetch the image and print it on the item you ordered, and to use it again only if a return or exchange on that order needs a reprint. We never publish customer photos, use them in marketing or show them to other customers. Our working copy and the stored link are deleted 30 days after delivery, as described in our Privacy Policy, and you can ask us to delete them sooner.

6. Other people’s names and marks

Paws And Pine is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any park service, outdoor brand, sports league or entertainment company. If you ever see a third-party name on our site, for example in a sentence explaining which photo-sharing services give you a link, such as Google Photos, iCloud or Dropbox, it is there only to describe something factually, and it belongs to its owner.

7. Reporting an intellectual property concern

If you believe a product, image or piece of text on pawsandpine.shop infringes your trademark, design right, right of publicity or other intellectual property, email [email protected] with the subject “IP concern” and include:

  1. your name, email address and postal address, and your relationship to the rights owner;
  2. the right concerned, for example a trademark and its registration number and country, or a description of the design or likeness;
  3. the URL of each product or page involved;
  4. a short explanation of why you believe it infringes;
  5. a statement that the information you have given is accurate and that you are the rights owner or authorised to act for them.

Letters can also be sent to Paws And Pine, 760 N 7th St Apt 5304, San Jose, CA 95112, US. For copyright in particular, the six-part notice on our DMCA page is the quickest route.

8. What we do with a report

  1. We acknowledge it within 24 hours on business days.
  2. We look at the product or page and at our own design records.
  3. If we need more information, such as proof of a registration, we ask before deciding.
  4. If the concern is valid, we change or remove the design, image or text and tell you what we did.
  5. If customers have open orders for an affected design, we contact them and offer an alternative design or a full refund.

We would rather fix a genuine problem quickly than argue about it. If we believe the report is mistaken, we explain why, and you remain free to pursue the matter in other ways.

9. Requests to use our content

Writers, bloggers and pet groups sometimes ask to feature a design or a photo of a product. Email us with what you would like to use and where it will appear. Please wait for written permission before publishing anything beyond a link and a short quote.

Shelters and rescue groups planning a raffle or fundraiser sometimes want to show one of our throws. Tell us the event and how the image will be used, and we will reply within 24 hours on business days. Permission given for one event does not carry over to other uses, so please ask again for the next one.

10. Ideas and suggestions

We love hearing ideas, such as a breed you would like to see as a portrait or a new cabin motif. If you send us a suggestion, we may use it freely without payment. We will never publish your name, your pet’s name or your photo in connection with it unless you say yes.
